The G-Tools 1.1m x 1m ebb & flow tray is a purpose-built flood tray for growers who want a reliable, watertight growing surface at bench scale. It suits medium-to-large indoor gardens running either flood-and-drain schedules or drip irrigation setups.
At 1,100 x 1,000 mm this tray fills a standard grow-rack bay without wasted space. It is moulded from virgin UV-resistant plastic, which matters under high-intensity LEDs - recycled plastic degrades faster under prolonged light exposure. The tray arrives without lead-throughs fitted, which is deliberate: the correct fittings depend on how you intend to use it, and all drainage fittings connect to standard PVC couplings available at any plumbing or hardware outlet.
For flood-and-drain growing, connect a submersible pump to the inlet lead-through and set a timer. The pump floods the tray to a controlled depth at intervals you decide; when it stops, gravity returns the solution to the reservoir. Integrated perimeter gutters direct any overflow to the central drainage point rather than over the rim. Fit at least one overflow fitting to set your maximum flood depth and eliminate any risk of spillage onto electrics or flooring below.
The flood-and-drain cycle does more than deliver nutrients. As solution rises through pot-base holes it displaces stale air from the root zone. When it recedes, fresh oxygen is drawn back in. This active oxygen exchange drives vigorous root development and is one reason ebb & flow remains a preferred method for rapid vegetative growth. In drip mode, the tray acts as a simple catchment: run drip lines above your pots and a single drain lead-through handles the runoff.
G-Tools supply matching aluminium grow tables designed specifically for this tray. Pairing the tray with a G-Tools rack creates a fully waterproof, structurally sound growing surface. For lighting, a 1.1 x 1.0 m footprint fits neatly under a Sanlight Q6W or two Sanlight Q4W units side by side, giving even canopy coverage without hotspots. Keep a spare set of PVC couplings on hand - they cost very little and make system changes quick during a grow.
Grower’s Note: In an ebb & flow system, flood depth and duration matter as much as nutrient strength. Start with short flood cycles - 15 minutes is typically enough for pots up to 11 litres - and observe how quickly the tray drains. If water sits for more than 20-30 minutes after the pump cuts off, check your drainage fittings for partial blockage. Always install at least one overflow fitting set 10-15 mm below pot rim height; this gives you a hard limit on flood depth and protects against timer or pump faults.
