A purpose-built vertical growing frame for microgreens and shallow-rooted crops, using a simple timed ebb and flow cycle. It suits home growers and small commercial producers who want consistent yields from a compact floor footprint.
Each tier of this rack holds two 0.52 × 0.52 m trays side by side. That gives you roughly 0.54 m² of growing surface per level. Stack two or three tiers and you can multiply that without using any extra floor space. The frame is designed from the outset for ebb and flow irrigation, so the spacing between shelves and the clearance below the bottom tier are matched to the system rather than added as an afterthought.
The 36-litre tank sits neatly beneath the lowest shelf. A pump lifts nutrient solution up to each tray on a timer; when the pump cuts out, the solution drains back under gravity. This passive drain-back keeps roots aerobic between feeds and means there are no standing water issues in the trays. Complete irrigation kits are available separately and are rated to supply a single rack running up to three tiers.
Lighting is straightforward on this rack because the shelf spacing is designed around Sanlight Flex II strip LEDs. Mounting three to five Flex II 20 W strips per tier lets you dial in the PPFD level your crop needs - fewer strips for greens with lower light demands, more for denser canopies. The Flex II's slim profile fits the under-shelf space without eating into crop height, and the strips can be daisy-chained to simplify wiring.
If you need to move the rack for cleaning or reconfiguration, ask for it to be fitted with castors at the point of order. The modular tier system also means you can start with two levels and add a third later without buying a new frame. Pair this rack with a timer, a nutrient dosing kit, and Sanlight Flex II strips to have a fully functional, scalable microgreens station ready to produce.
Grower’s Note: Microgreens and fast-turnover crops like pea shoots or radish benefit from short, frequent flood cycles - typically two to four times per day depending on substrate depth and ambient temperature. Keep your 36-litre reservoir topped up and check EC and pH at every refill rather than every harvest; fluctuations compound quickly in small-volume systems. If you run three tiers, ensure your pump's head pressure is rated to reach the top shelf with adequate flow.
