The Prima Klima PK160 ECblue is a 160mm EC inline fan rated at 1180m³/h, built for growers who want precise climate control without wasting energy. It suits medium to large grow rooms where temperature management and running costs both matter.
EC motors operate on direct current internally, even when fed mains AC power. The result is a motor that runs efficiently at any speed, not just at full throttle. Traditional AC fans waste energy as heat when slowed by a voltage controller. The PK160 ECblue does not. At partial load - the speed most extraction fans run at most of the time - the EC motor stays efficient, and real-world energy savings of 50% or more are achievable.
The fan ships with an RJ45 port rather than built-in temperature controls. This is a deliberate design choice. You mount the fan high in the grow room where hot air collects. The ECTC-1 digital controller connects via a standard RJ45 cable and can be positioned wherever you can reach it easily - on a tent pole, a wall bracket, or the outside panel of a grow cabinet. You set a target temperature, a minimum speed for lights-off periods, and a maximum speed for lights-on. The fan does the rest automatically.
For a 160mm fan producing 1180m³/h, typical applications include grow tents in the 1.2m × 1.2m to 1.5m × 1.5m range, or larger sealed rooms where you need meaningful air turnover without running full speed continuously. Pair it with a 160mm acoustic ducting run kept as short and straight as possible to preserve that rated airflow. A quality 160mm carbon filter on the inlet side will handle odour without choking the fan if you match filter and fan ratings correctly.
Noise is noticeably lower than comparable AC fans at equivalent airflow. Because the speed can be dialled back precisely, you are never running faster than necessary. During dark periods, setting a low minimum speed keeps the space ventilated and the fan near-silent. G-Tools and Sanlight LED systems run cool relative to HPS, so pairing this fan with an efficient LED setup often means it operates at mid-range speeds for much of the cycle, which is exactly where EC technology performs best.
Grower’s Note: Mount this fan at the highest point in your grow space - heat rises, and extracting from the top of the room is significantly more effective than mid-height placement. Keep duct bends to a minimum; every 90-degree bend can reduce effective airflow by 10-15%. If you are running a sealed or near-sealed environment with CO₂ supplementation, the ability to set a true minimum speed (including near-zero) means you can minimise CO₂ loss during the enrichment phase while still maintaining safe temperatures.
