Grow Lights

Grow lights convert electricity into the precise light spectra plants need to photosynthesise indoors. Hydroponics UK stocks 27 Sanlight grow lights and accessories, from all-in-one EVO LED fixtures starting at £455 to modular FLEX II bars from £68. Size your lighting at 200 to 400 watts per square metre of canopy. FLEX II drivers feed 150 W and 240 W of panels from a single low-voltage unit, so one circuit can light a whole shelf rack.

BRANDS STOCKED Sanlight EVO and FLEX II LED systems, made in Austria.
LIGHT EFFICACY EVO fixtures output up to 2.7 µmol per joule.

LED Grow Lights for Every Stage of Indoor Growing

Grow lights replace natural sunlight inside a controlled growing space. Plants need specific light spectra to photosynthesise, and modern LED chips deliver those spectra with far less heat and power than older HPS or CFL lamps. Sanlight builds modular, daisy-chainable LED systems in Austria for serious UK growers. The FLEX II range runs on low-voltage DC power from a central driver, which reduces electrical risk and keeps wiring tidy across larger canopies.

Choosing the right light starts with your space. Measure your canopy area in square metres, then target roughly 200 to 400 watts of LED power per square metre. The figure rises with the crop and the growth stage. Flowering plants want the higher end; seedlings and leafy greens sit near the bottom. A FLEX II Driver 240W powers several FLEX II bars at once through Y-splitters and T-connectors, so you branch circuits without buying extra drivers.

Sanlight EVO vs FLEX II: Which Range Suits You

The two Sanlight ranges solve different problems. The EVO series is an all-in-one fixture: one unit, one plug, full coverage of a tent or cabinet. The FLEX II series is a modular bar system you build up bar by bar, ideal for shelving, propagation racks and awkward layouts. The table below compares the most popular options we stock.

Matt's Pick: Sanlight EVO 3-100

Best for: a complete 1 m² cabinet or small tent

Why we rate it: the low-profile body and 90° lens push even light onto the canopy from close range, and worn LED modules swap out rather than scrapping the fixture.

How to Match Drivers, Panels and Connectors in the FLEX II System

The FLEX II system uses one central driver to supply DC power across a daisy-chained run of panels. Start with the driver's total wattage, then add up the wattage of every bar you plan to connect. A FLEX II Driver 150W runs up to 15 FLEX II 10 panels, 7 FLEX II 20 bars, or 5 FLEX II 25 panels. Leave roughly 10 percent headroom below the rated maximum to protect the driver over time.

Cable management matters more than most growers expect. The 21/19 connector standard makes secure, tool-free joins. They resist accidental disconnection when you raise the canopy. Hang the driver outside the tent where temperatures are cooler, as that extends its working life. If you plan to scale up later, buy one spare splitter now so adding a bar needs no rewiring.

We stock Sanlight because the modular design earns its place in a UK grow room. Swappable LED modules mean a fixture is not landfill the day its output drops. The low-voltage FLEX II wiring is also safer to live with than mains-voltage lamps in a humid tent. For most home growers, one EVO fixture per cabinet is the simplest route to a reliable result.

Frequently asked questions

How many watts of LED grow light do I need per square metre?

Target 200 to 400 watts of LED per square metre of canopy. Use the lower figure for seedlings and leafy greens, and the higher figure for dense flowering crops. Measure the lit area, not the whole room.

What is the difference between Sanlight EVO and FLEX II?

EVO is an all-in-one fixture; FLEX II is a modular bar system. An EVO unit lights a tent from one plug. FLEX II lets you build lighting bar by bar across shelves and racks.

Can I run several FLEX II panels from one driver?

Yes, a single driver powers a whole daisy-chained run. A 150W driver feeds up to 15 FLEX II 10 panels or 7 FLEX II 20 bars. Keep total panel wattage below the driver rating.

How close can I hang a Sanlight grow light?

Both ranges are built to hang close to the canopy. EVO fixtures use a 90 degree lens for even coverage at low height. The FLEX II 20 bar can sit 15 cm above plants without light burn.

Do Sanlight LED grow lights need a separate dimmer?

EVO lights take an optional plug-in Magnetic Dimmer for intensity control. It also ramps output up slowly at lights-on, which reduces stress on young plants.

Are these grow lights suitable for UK mains power?

Yes, every Sanlight unit runs on standard 230 V UK mains. FLEX II drivers convert that to low-voltage DC for the panels, so the wiring around your plants stays low-voltage.

Plan a full grow room around your lights. Pair them with grow cabinets, grow tables and the right ventilation and filters to manage heat and humidity.
